Terms of Service
Version 2026-10-01 · last updated October 1, 2026
1. Who we are and what Sidequest is
Sidequest is operated by [Company legal name] (“Sidequest”, “we”). Sidequest is a marketplace that lets verified college students post paid tasks (“quests”), take them, and buy, sell or give away items. We are not a party to the work or the sale: posters, helpers, buyers and sellers deal with each other directly. Helpers are independent people, not our employees or contractors, and we don’t direct how any task is done.
2. Eligibility and your account
- You must sign up with an email address at a participating school and keep one account per person.
- You must be at least 18 to receive payouts. Users under 18 may not receive money through Sidequest.
- Keep your login secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- Your legal name and date of birth are used for identity and payout checks and are never shown publicly.
3. Payments and escrow
Payments are processed by Stripe. When a quest is published or an item is bought, the payer is charged up front and the money is held until the job or handoff is confirmed, then paid out to the helper or seller through Stripe Connect. If nobody confirms, the payment is released automatically after the confirmation window (see the Fees & Refund Policy). Fees, refunds, no-shows and cancellations are governed by the Fees & Refund Policy, which is part of these Terms.
4. What you may not do
- Post or take tasks that are illegal, unsafe, or that violate your school’s rules — including doing graded coursework, exams or assignments for someone else.
- Arrange to pay or be paid outside Sidequest for a task or item you found on Sidequest.
- Meet anywhere other than a public place, or share someone’s private details without their consent.
- Harass, threaten or discriminate against anyone; post false listings or fake reviews; or create extra accounts.
- Try to game XP, badges or levels, e.g. by repeatedly trading with the same person.
5. Reviews, reports and moderation
Either side can report a problem on a transaction. Reports pause automatic payouts until a moderator decides. We may remove content, pause payouts under review, or suspend accounts that break these Terms or the Community Guidelines. A first suspension lasts 30 days; a second is permanent.
6. Disclaimers and limits of liability
Sidequest is provided “as is”. We don’t guarantee the quality, safety or legality of any task, item or user, and you use Sidequest at your own risk. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
7. Changes and ending your account
We may update these Terms. When we do, we’ll ask you to review and accept the new version before you can post, apply, buy or sell. You can disable your account at any time in Settings.
8. Governing law and contact
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Questions: [support email].
How deals, XP and moderation work day to day is explained in How it works. Those pages describe the system and update automatically when our settings change; they aren’t part of what you agree to.
