Draft — pending legal review. This describes how Sidequest works today and may change before launch.
Privacy Policy
Version 2026-10-01 · last updated October 1, 2026
What we collect
- Your school email, nickname, profile photo and bio.
- Your legal name, date of birth and phone number — encrypted, never shown publicly, used only for identity and payout checks.
- If you choose optional ID verification: whether you passed. ID images are handled by Stripe Identity; we only keep the result.
- Payout and card details are held by Stripe, not by us.
- Your quests, listings, transactions, messages, reviews, XP and badges. Chat messages and photos are kept (they can be evidence in a dispute) and are visible to the other person in that chat and to our moderators. Photos have their location data removed; anyone with a photo’s exact link can open it, so don’t send anything you wouldn’t want shared.
- Reports you file and people you block. A report is seen only by our moderators, never by the person you reported.
- Your approximate location only while you browse, to show distances. It stays in the page address and is never stored.
- While you’re logged in: the quests and listings you open and the searches you run. Together with what you save, apply to, buy and chat about, this orders your “For you” feeds. Only the last 90 days count, these records are deleted after 6 months, and nothing is collected when you’re logged out.
- Your notifications: read ones are deleted after 90 days, unread ones after a year.
How we use it
To run the marketplace (matching, personalized feeds, payments, payouts, notifications), keep it safe (fraud and abuse detection, moderation), and meet legal obligations. We don’t sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
Stripe (payments, payouts, identity checks), our email provider and your browser’s push service (Apple, Google or Mozilla) for notifications, an error-monitoring service (Sentry) that receives technical crash details — never your messages or payment details — and our hosting providers. Other users see only your public profile and what you choose to post.
Your choices
You can turn off feed personalization, or clear your history so your feeds start fresh, under Settings → Your feed. You can edit your profile in Settings and disable your account at any time — disabling hides your profile and unpublishes your listings, and logging back in reactivates it. To have your personal details erased, contact us; we keep only the transaction records we’re required to retain.
